We all want to believe that we are different from everyone else — we’re special, unique, exceptional, unicorn, crazy, even weird. If this is true, then it should start with having an original thought, but what makes a thought original? If your thought, idea, or subject of conversation are based on tv, movies, politics, social media, brands, products, ads, sports, celebrities, then it’s really not so original after all, especially if it’s subjects that are viral. These are trends and that’s why they call it a trending topic. And now with social media, it’s really common and acceptable to be a follower these days. So since thoughts and conversations are the seeds of your reality, and you talk mostly of pop culture and viral content, it’s not so original. It’s the same conversation millions are sharing and talking about. I do the same thing too. Only now, I’m very aware of the content of my thoughts and conversations so I limit my intake of pop culture and major media content. The only way to truly have original thoughts is by turning on your own personal creativity flow and turning off tv, commercials, and other distractions. Spend time with yourself without media influence. Meditation is another great way. Be less of a follower and more of a leader of your own thoughts and ideas. Become a habitual original thinker and that will truly make you different from others.
